Given the recent weather and road conditions in Edmonton, Alberta, what better time to discuss the do’s and don’ts of winter driving! Edmonton experienced an extremely high amount of vehicles collisions due to the recent freezing rain and freeze thaw conditions. Over 100 collisions were reported in Edmonton from the freezing rain. Many of these could have been prevented by driving in a manner that is appropriate for the weather and road conditions. October 31st is actually one of the most dangerous days of the year when it comes to traffic and vehicle related accidents and fatalities. In fact, pedestrian deaths spike 43% on Halloween, making it more susceptible to a traffic fatality than any other night of the year – and children being the most at risk.

New Charges Laid in Humboldt Tragedy

On July 6, 2018, the RCMP charged 29-year-old Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, the driver of the semi-trailer, with 16 counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and 13 counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily injury.

Edmonton Police responded to over 70 property damage vehicle collisions and 5 injury collisions in a span of 4 hours.
